Union County Happenings
The Union County chapter is busy working on our two big spring/summer events; the Ag-Timber Parade and the Benchwarmer’s Classic Golf Tournament. Benchwarmer’s will host the golf tournament on July 8 this year and our local chapter benefits from a putting contest, poker run and mulligan sales. It has been a very good fundraiser for our group and is a lot of fun to boot!
Melissa Fullerton and Vanessa Hagedorn recently were asked to speak at the Roundup Republican’s Meeting on April 13th during their noon lunch meeting. They felt that it was a great way to help others understand that OWIT and TAT’s mission is education of our renewable forest. They answered many questions and handed out a lot of information from OWIT, TAT and OFRI.
Talk About Trees Update – Joan Mason Ruud, Oregon State Director
Talk About Trees Facilitators met in Eugene in February for our Annual TAT Workshop. This year we focused on the new revisions to the Primary Talk About Trees Classroom Programs. Each facilitator received a binder that includes revised lesson plans, reproducible materials and visual aids as well as some new tree products to share with students.
Facilitator and artist, Lisa Wilcke created new visuals that are repeated through the new materials. The new graphics are bright and lively and have been very well received by students and teachers.
The Intermediate TAT Classroom Programs are being revised and new materials will be added. The new materials will include hand drawn images of common Oregon trees. These revisions will be distributed to facilitators before the start of the new school year.
SAVE THE DATE – SATURDAY OCTOBER 14, 2017 – OWIT ANNUAL MEETING AT THE COAST!
We are working out the details and will send more information soon.
