On behalf of the Talk About Trees and Oregon Women in Timber, we are pleased to report, our 28th annual auction was a great success! A huge thank you goes out to Ritchie Bros., who helped us bring in over $122,000, dedicated to Talk About Trees, our statewide forest education program for pre-kindergarten through 8th grade students. Since 1991, we have reached over 3.5 Million Students! The auction clearly plays an important role in Oregon Women in Timber’s ability to keep Talk About Trees growing!
Rick Kriege of Prineville won the “Partners in Education” fundraiser which raised funds for both the OLC Scholarship Foundation and the Talk About Trees education program. The prize was a $500 VISA Card.
Lyn Smith with Giustina Land and Timber in Eugene, won the Remington Model 783 Scoped rifle raffle. The rifle was donated by Paul Barnum, retired Executive Director of Oregon Forest Resources Institute.
The NW Ford Dealers Advertising Association helped us out with a $5,000 donation. They have donated a total of $106,000 to OWIT since 2002. We appreciate their continued support. Please thank your local Ford dealers next time you visit a Ford dealership!
The Oregon Logging Conference School Tours were also a great success. Beth Krisko with Forests Today & Forever organized the event, seeing close to 1,000 students, up from 2017’s numbers of 727. The tours were cancelled in 2018 due to the weather. Talk About Trees facilitators were on hand to teach students about trees and forestry careers along with foresters, and OLC board members. We were also please to see another successful year of high school attendees for the Future Forestry Career Day.
We want to thank the Oregon Logging Conference for partnering with us each year during their event. Together we continue to make a difference by supporting forestry education and the future of our industry!
