Fall Owtings 2014

Happy Fall everyone! This is one of my favorite times of year as the colors are just so beautiful!

I was able to attend the Pacific Logging Congress this year and it was a great experience. Several of us from Eastern Oregon made the trip west and joined other local OWIT members from the area to attend the PLC event and the annual meeting for OWIT. The event at the Port Blakely Tree Farm in Molalla, Oregon was very organized and educational and they did a wonderful job! Our Talk About Trees facilitators were on hand to help with the flow of over 2500 kids, offering a 10 minute lesson titled “Trees 101”. It was fortunate to have this great event so close to us!

We had the annual meeting at the Oregon Garden again this year since it was so convenient to the Pacific Logging Congress and is a great venue for us. The meeting went well and we had the pleasure of meeting a few new members. We are looking at holding next year’s annual meeting in the Hood River area, touring an active logging operation and possibly staying at the Resort at the Mountain.

We always welcome help with the auction in Eugene the week of February 16th. If you have half a day, a day or a week free to help, we can put you to work. E-mail Diann Washburn with the days you are available during that time.

If you haven’t already done so, I would encourage you to join the Healthy Forest, Healthy Communities Coalition. It is a great way to get information on the most current issues in our State and Country. It also provides a great way to make sure your voice is heard on “call to action” items.

Enjoy your upcoming holidays, sharing and making lasting memories with family and friends!~

Respectfully, Melissa Fullerton, OWIT co-president
